Where Are Your Thoughts

For as he thinketh in his heart, so [is] he.... Proverbs 23:7

There is life-giving power in our thoughts. What we think or believe in our minds can transform many situations. Our ability to redirect our thoughts from the things of this world onto the things of God can change our day, our week, and even our year.

From the abundance of our thoughts come our actions and our words. Our thoughts can shape our attitudes toward who we are and how we treat others. The things we choose to ponder are not just simple daydreams; where we allow our mind to wonder truly matters!

The Bible teaches us to think on these things...

Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things [are] honest, whatsoever things [are] just, whatsoever things [are] pure, whatsoever things [are] lovely, whatsoever things [are] of good report; if [there be] any virtue, and if [there be] any praise, think on these things. Phil 4:8

The word “think” in the above verse is defined as to consider, take account, weigh, meditate on; with a view to obtaining it

So, based on this definition of think, we are not to just let it run through our mind, but we are to take account of the things we are thinking about. We need to sit with our thoughts, and soak in where our minds are leading. If we are not careful we will get carried away with our thoughts and then our actions will follow suit.

Ask yourself...

·         What thoughts am I allowing to take up residence in my mind?

·         Are my thoughts helpful or hurtful?

·         Do they bring peace or anxiety?

·         Do I prioritize my thoughts toward what is holy and praiseworthy?

The enemy would have us think of trash, vanity, hurt, pain, disappointment, judgment, and arguments... all of which are distractions that can tear us down.

The Word gives us guidance on our thoughts:

The wicked, through the pride of his countenance, will not seek [after God]: God [is] not in all his thoughts. Psalm 10:4

Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ; 2 Corinthians 10:5

Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O LORD, my strength, and my redeemer. Psalm 19:14

And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what [is] that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God. Romans 12:2

Wherefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and hope to the end for the grace that is to be brought unto you at the revelation of Jesus Christ; 1 Peter 1:13

Thou wilt keep [him] in perfect peace, [whose] mind [is] stayed [on thee]: because he trusteth in thee. Isaiah 26:3

These are only a few of the many verses that remind us and direct us to renew our minds, to keep our thoughts on the Lord, and to not let our thoughts drag us away from the peace God has for us.

When we think about God, His blessings, all He has done for us, the beauty all around us in creation, and the love He freely gave, then we can have peace of mind. We will then be able to walk in the newness of who He created us to be.

When we think about what we don't have, the evil of this world, the pain, the hurt, and the rejection, then we become overwhelmed with anxiety and depression. We will struggle to live out the call on our lives.

My friend, there is a battlefield in our minds, which will move us in the direction of our thoughts! So, flood your mind with truth - God's life-giving truth!
